From Proto-Turkic *koŋuŕ.[1][2] Cognates with Karakhanid قُنكُزْ (qoŋuz), Bashkir ҡуңыҙ (quñıź), Kyrgyz коңуз (koŋuz), Southern Altai коҥус (koŋus), Tatar коңгыз (qoñgız).
