EtymologyEdit

From Classical Syriac ܟܘܟܝܬܐ(kukkīṯā, shack, hut), from Aramaic כוכי(kukkī, shack, hut), ultimately from Akkadian 𒆠𒅅𒆠𒋙 (kikkiš, reed wall or fence; reed hut); cognates with Persian کوخ(hut, shack) and Georgian ქოხი (koxi, cabin, shack). Possibly conflated in other forms with Middle Persian kwšk' (kōšk, pavilion, palace), Persian کاخ(kâx, palace, castle), and Akkadian 𒆠𒅕𒄷 (kirḫu, acropolis, inner sanctum; a walled off enclosure intended for the priestly class) > Arabic كِرْح(kirḥ).
