From Middle Persian blnc (/⁠brinǰ⁠/). Doublet of ܐܘܪܘܙܐ (ʔuruzzā), ܘܪܘܢܙܐ (warunzā), ܪܘܙܐ (rūzā), and ܪܐܙܐ (rāzā), all meaning “rice”.
