From the older form ܢܲܕܵܠܵܐ (naddālā), the active noun of the verb ܢܵܕ݂ܸܠ (nāḏil, to move). Compare Classical Syriac ܢܲܕܵܠܵܐ. The form with /m/ is already found in Bar Ali’s 9th century dictionary and in Bar Bahlul’s 10th century lexicon as local vernacular words.
