Ultimately derived from Phoenician 𐤓𐤀𐤔 (rʾš, literally head); compare Classical Syriac ܪܝܫ (rēš), Hebrew רֵישׁ (resh), Arabic رَاء (rāʔ) and Ancient Greek ῥῶ (rhô). Doublet of ܪܹܝܫܵܐ (rēšā).
