Borrowed from Classical Persian عمده ('umda), from Arabic عُمْدَة (ʕumda). Compare Gujarati ઉમદું (umadũ), Hindustani उम्दा (umdā) / عُمْدَہ ('umda), Bengali উমদা (umoda), Punjabi ਉਮਦਾ (umadā) / عُمدہ (ʻumdh).
