Borrowed from Classical Persian خلاصی (xalāsī), an alteration of خلاشی (xalāšī, sailor). Compare Gujarati ખલાસી (khalāsī), Hindustani خَلَاصِی (xalāsī) / ख़लासी (xalāsī).
