Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘨𑘝𑘜𑘹 (parataṇe), 𑘢𑘨𑘼𑘝𑘜𑘹 (parautaṇe), 𑘢𑘨𑘿𑘝𑘜𑘹 (partaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀭𑀺𑀯𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀇 (parivattaï), from Sanskrit परिवर्तते (parivartate). Related to परत (parat). Cognate with Punjabi ਪਰਤਣਾ (partaṇā) / پَرتݨا (partṇā).
