Etymology

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘣𑘯𑘜𑘹 (phaḷaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀨𑀮𑀇 (phalaï), from Sanskrit फलति (phalati). Related to फळ (phaḷ, fruit). Cognate with Gujarati ફળવું (phaḷvũ), Hindi फलना (phalnā), Sindhi ڦَرَڻُ / फरणु, Punjabi ਫਲਣਾ (phalṇā) / پھلنا (phlnā) , Nepali फल्नु (phalnu), Bengali ফলা (phola).
