Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘣𑘰𑘚𑘜𑘹 (phāḍaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀨𑀸𑀟𑁂𑀇 (phāḍei), from Sanskrit स्फाटयति (sphāṭayati).
