From Ashokan Prakrit *𑀨𑀺𑀲𑁆𑀲𑁆 (*phiss) (compare Old Marathi 𑘤𑘲𑘭𑘎𑘳𑘭𑘜𑘹 (bīsakusaṇe)). Compare Sindhi ڦِسْڪَڻُ / फिस्कणु, Hindustani پِھسَلْنا (phisalnā) / फिसलना (phisalnā), Punjabi ਫਿਸਲਣਾ (phislaṇā) / پھِسلݨا (phislṇā).
