Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘥𑘳𑘃 (bhuī), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀪𑀽𑀫𑀺 (bhūmi), from Sanskrit भूमि (bhū́mi). Doublet of भूमी (bhūmī). Compare Gujarati ભોં (bhõ), Hindustani بُھئِیں (bhuī̃) / भुईं (bhuī̃), Sindhi ڀنُئيِ / भुंई, Nepali भुइँ (bhuĩ), Maithili भुइँ (bhuĩ) / 𑒦𑒳𑒃𑒿 (bhuĩ), Odia ଭୁଇଁ (bhuĩ), Assamese ভূঁই (bhũi), Sinhalese බිම (bima), Dhivehi ބިން (bin̊), Romani phuv.
