From मृणालिन् (mṛṇālin, a lotus), from मृणाल (mṛṇāla, the film or fibres attached to the stalk of a lotus), from मृण् (mṛṇ, to kill, hurt, injure, crush, smash, slay), from the root मृ (mṛ, to die, decease, hurt, kill). Ultimately Inherited from Proto-Indo-European *mer- (to die).
