Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘦𑘜𑘹 (samaṇe), 𑘭𑘦𑘰𑘜𑘹 (samāṇe), 𑘭𑘰𑘦𑘰𑘜𑘹 (sāmāṇe), 𑘭𑘰𑘦𑘰𑘧𑘜𑘹 (sāmāyaṇe) 𑘭𑘰𑘦𑘰𑘪𑘜𑘹 (sāmāvaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀫𑀸𑀇 (saṃmāi), from Sanskrit संमाति (saṃmāti). Compare Gujarati સમાવું (samāvũ), Hindustani سَمَانَا (samānā) / समाना (samānā), Sindhi سَمائِجَڻُ / समाइजणु, Punjabi ਸਮਾਉਣਾ (samāuṇā) / سَماؤݨا (samā'oṇā), Maithili समाएब (samāēb) / 𑒮𑒧𑒰𑒋𑒥 (samāēba), Assamese সোমোৱা (xümüa), Phalura samóo / سمو.
