Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘮𑘲𑘽𑘚𑘜𑘹 (hīṃḍaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀳𑀺𑀁𑀟𑀇 (hiṃḍaï), from Sanskrit हिण्डति (hiṇḍati). Compare Gujarati હીંડવું (hī̃ḍvũ), Nepali हिंड्नु (hiṇḍnu), Odia ହିଣ୍ଡିବା (hiṇḍibā).
