Etymology edit
အင်္ကျီ (angkyi, “clothes”) + ရှည် (hrany, “long”), from the Burmese association of Hokkien settlers with the merchant trade. Conversely, the Cantonese were associated with artisanship and manual work, hence the name အင်္ကျီတို (angkyitui).
