Etymology

According to Andronikashvili, an Iranian borrowing from the family of Persian (borz, “high, tall”). For the -ც- (-c-) compare ცრუჲ (cruy).

According to Fähnrich, a Nakh borrowing: compare Ingush боарз (boarz, “gravemound, mound of earth; kurgan”), Chechen барз (barz, “hill, hillock, mound”). The Nakh terms are usually derived from Ossetian барз (barz), which is cognate with Persian (borz).
