Etymology edit

Unknown. Perhaps akin to Mingrelian სიმეტი (simeṭi), სმეტი (smeṭi), Svan სუ̂ეტ (sûeṭ), სეტ (seṭ) (if these words aren't borrowed from Georgian). On the other hand, if this word is related to შუეტი (šueṭi, straight, unbent), compare Laz სკვიტი (sǩviťi, pillar).
