From Proto-Mon-Khmer *laŋ ~ *laaŋ ~ *laiŋ; cognate with Bahnar klang (eagle, hawk, kite), Pacoh calang (hawk), Mang laːŋ¹, Central Nicobarese [Nancowry] kalâng (hawk) and Chong kʰlaːˀŋ.
