ⲕⲁϩⲓⲣⲏ
Coptic edit
Etymology edit
Most likely borrowed from Arabic اَلْقَاهِرَة (al-qāhira). A common folk etymology derives it from ⲕⲁϩⲓ (kahi, “place of”) + ⲣⲏ (rē, “the sun, deity Re”). A proper Coptic form would be ⲕⲁϩⲓ ⲛ̀ⲣⲏ or ⲕⲁϩⲣⲏ.
