みゅ (myu

  1. The hiragana syllable みゅ (myu). Its equivalent in katakana is ミュ (myu).

Usage notes edit

  • みゅ (myu) is known as one of the rarest kana digraphs in native Japanese non-loanwords. Linguist Haruhiko Kindaichi raises the example of the Japanese family name 小豆生田(おおまみゅうだ) (Ōmamyūda) and claims it is the only occurrence amongst pure Japanese words.
