EtymologyEdit

First attested in the Gugeupbang eonhae (救急方諺解 / 구급방언해), 1466, as 고솜돝 (Yale: kwoswomtolth). Appears to be a compound of 고솜 and . The second part is related to 돼지 (dwaeji, “pig”), but the origin of the first part is unclear, perhaps related to the second syllable of 송곳 (songgot, “gimlet”).
