Etymology

First attested in the Hunmong jahoe (訓蒙字會 / 훈몽자회), 1527, as Middle Korean 글〮위 (Yale: kúlGwùy). Subsequently passed through the forms 그릐 (geurui) and 그늬 (geunui).
