First attested in the Sabeobeo eonhae (四法語諺解 / 사법어언해), 1467, as Middle Korean 노구 (Yale: nwòkwù). Also attested in the Beonyeok nogeoldae (飜譯老乞大 / 번역노걸대), 1517, as Middle Korean 노고 (Yale: nwòkwò).
