마늘 (maneul, “garlic”).

Etymology

edit

First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 마ᄂᆞᆯ〮 (Yale: mànól), from Old Korean 蒜尸 (MANOl). Beyond attested forms, Jeju 마농 (manong) may suggest that the word was once morphologically complex.
