First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 오〮누의〮 (Yale: wónwùúy), equivalent to *올 (*wol) (Yale: *wol), not attested in isolation but found in 오〮라비〮 (Yale: wól-àpí, “brother”) + 누의 (Yale: nwùùy, “sister”).
