Etymology 2
editFirst attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 주비. Probably a relative to Common Turkic *čabïĺ or Japanese つわもの thus firstly having a sense of "host", "army", later shifting its meaning into "crowd".
