Etymology edit

Bêl-šarra-uṣṣur from earlier *baʿal-śarra-unṣur, literally “May the Lord Protect the King.” Composed of 𒂗 (EN /⁠bêl⁠/, lord), 𒈗 (LUGAL /⁠šarru⁠/, king), and 𒋀 (URI3 /⁠uṣṣur⁠/), assimilated from earlier *unṣur, jussive form of naṣāru (“to protect”). Comparable in meaning to the English expression God Save the King!
