Borrowed from Koine Greek Ἀβεσσαλώμ (Abessalṓm) in the Septuagint, from Biblical Hebrew אֲבִישָׁלוֹם (ʾAḇîšālôm, literally father of peace). The forms Absālōm, Absālōmus are from the alternative form אַבְשָׁלוֹם (ʾAḇšālōm).
