From Ancient Greek δάφνη Ἀλεξανδρεία (dáphnē Alexandreía), from δάφνη (dáphnē, “laurel”) + Ἀλεξανδρεία (Alexandreía, “of Alexander, Alexandrian”).

- An ornamental shrub in the asparagus family, Danae racemosa, with glossy leaf-like stems
- An ornamental evergreen tree native from East Africa and India through the South Pacific of species Calophyllum inophyllum, which has strong wood and seeds containing a useful oil.
