Sindarin

Etymology

Modified from Arvelain in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Noldorin’). Diegetically explained as either from aur (“day”) +‎ Belain (plural of Balan (“Vala”)), or else from aur (“day”) + a phonological translation of Quenya Valanya; Tolkien offered both derivations at different times.
