Finnish fifth infinitives.

This verb form is used with the verb olla in the structure that expresses "to be (just) about to do sth (when sth happens preventing it)". This requires always a possessive suffix in its end, according to the person of the clause. The forms below are the combinations of the infinitive and the third-person singular possessive suffix -an/-än (shortened from -nsa/-nsä).

Olin lähtemäisilläni ulos, kun puhelin soi.
  • I was about to go out when the phone rang.
