Proto-West Germanic i-stem nouns.

These nouns are masculine, feminine or neuter, typically with the following endings:

  • in the nominative singular: -i;
  • in the genitive singular: ;
  • in the nominative plural: .

The stem classes are named from the perspective of Proto-Germanic and may not still be visible in Proto-West Germanic inflections. In Proto-Germanic, the masculine and feminine i-stems differed from the neuter i-stems in the nominative and accusative, but later sound changes caused the two classes to converge.
