- 2000 September 8, Teddi Litman, “Re: some legal discussion of the recent unpleasantness”, in alt.tv.x-files.creative[5] (Usenet):
- It's a matter of picking specific stories as the most horrible and *trying* to MST them. I say trying to MST because instead of inserting biting but funny comments, they tend to insert biting but boring grammar corrections which, incidentally, are not always accurate.
- 2003 April 13, James Burbridge, “Re: Fan fics?”, in alt.fan.harry-potter[10] (Usenet):
- Ratliff's fics have loads of bad syntax from a stylistic point of view, and a few real howlers, but if they were as impenetrably bad at grammar as many of the MSTed "badfics" I've seen they wouldn't be nearly as notorious as they are, because nobody could get through them.
- 2003 June 4, Dragon Friend, “Re: Need advice I have a serious *crush* on Snape & Draco”, in alt.fan.harry-potter[13] (Usenet):
- The jokes were very funny personally I am hoping that FEnM is going to MST the post you are replying to Troels as I assume you have cut some of it... how about it Catherine?

- 2003 April 4, Frank White, “Re: Fan fics?”, in alt.fan.harry-potter[18] (Usenet):
- Some authors' MSTs even take on a life of their own. The interactions between the characters they are using to review the fan-fic can become so interesting and absorbing (with loves, hates, mutual respect and sympathy, etc, etc developing between them) that the MST is actually an interruption in the story, especially if the same characters are used over and over for a variety of MSTs.
- 2003 April 8, Igenlode W., “Re: Fan fics?”, in alt.fan.harry-potter[19] (Usenet):
- The only MSTs I've seen (on alt.drwho.creative) have been of perfectly good fan fiction, deliberately cut about to make it look silly (truncating a character's words in the middle to create an[sic] non-existent innuendo, for example) - and those were *with* the authors' permission.
