1973, BMG; Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar (D. K. Keogh), page 32:
[the] album of bluegrass and old-time music features the friends and relations of demon banjo picker Andy Smith of Coventry, with his famous square banjo, assisted by John Field Esq., present here in his fiddle- and mandolin- playing capacities.
[He played] single string of a square banjo with an arched horsehair bow. A blind boy of nine or ten squatted beside the man, accompanying the minstrel on a short wooden flute.
