An HIV-positive man is the latest casualty in the ongoing string of West End rental disputes after another apartment building was mass evicted for what tenants are calling a "renoviction."
While she acknowledged that there is a historical investment and purpose in keeping The Centre located in the West End — the heart of the gay community — she also pointed out that the city's queer demographics are shifting as the West End's rental rates and "renovictions" soar.
[…] If we can increase the supply in a big way it will increase the stock and thus reduce the demand to increase rent or get around the Residential Tenancy Act with things like renovictions."
Regarding her comment about hazardous infrastructure and safety, there have been no reports made available to the daycare operators, community care licensing or environmental health regarding these claims, and it smacks of the same "renoviction" excuses that tenants are told when being evicted from their homes that they have lived in for decades.

Some landlords have used the pretence of renovations to turn out renters paying less than market rates, an act casually known as a "renoviction."
The city's blogs and online communities are filled with rants against so-called "renovictions," as landlords boot out long-time tenants to install hardwood floors and marble countertops in order to hike up rent or pay for things like security and safety upgrades.
The residents' association would parse the data to see "which companies and which landlords are really using 'renovictions' as a business model," she said.
