Faeroae
Latin
editPronunciation
edit- (Classical Latin) IPA(key): /fae̯ˈroː.ae̯/, [fäe̯ˈroːäe̯]
- (modern Italianate Ecclesiastical) IPA(key): /feˈro.e/, [feˈrɔːe]
Etymology 1
editProbably an adaptation of Danish Færø. The -ae termination reflects the feminine gender of Old Norse Færeyjar and its descendants (common gender in Danish and Swedish owing to their loss of the masculine–feminine distinction).
