Nederlands: De ceremonie op de foto is waarschijnlijk een regenritueel. Dit ritueel werd tot in de laatste decennia van de twintigste eeuw door Berbers in Marokko gehouden. Bij aanhoudende droogte werd een "regenbruid", een soort pop met vrouwenkleren (telyunja) gemaakt die door vrouwen en kinderen werd rondgedragen van huis tot huis. Bij de Berbers in het zuiden van Marokko werd de pop wel van een grote lepel (taghonja) gemaakt. In elk huis werden levensmiddelen voor een feestmaal opgehaald. Daarbij werden liederen gezongen om God om regen te vragen. De liederen verschilden van streek tot streek. Aan het eind van de ceremonie ging de optocht langs de rivierkant. De regenbruid werd met het hoofd als eerste in de rivier gelaten. Tenslotte werd van het opgehaalde voedsel een feestmaaltijd bereid (Becker 2006). |
