It was my wife's idea to take this ride because we had chickened out on the Grand Canyon Mule Ride three years in a row. This picture was taken just as she approached the first turn with a deep drop-off on the side. You can see she is doubting the wisdom of her idea. It is sort of a 'be careful what you wish for' moment. The turns got steeper and the trail narrowed as we went into the canyon. It was scary, but so worthwhile. At least we were happy about it until the next morning when we could hardly navigate on our stiff legs.
Later I thought it silly that we would be scared. The mules don't want to fall any more than we did, and they have been on the trail many times before.
