English: Paignton: Paignton Zoo, Elephants. Asian Elephants Elephas maximus (left) live in the jungle - their smaller ears make it easier for them to move through the undergrowth. Out on the savannah, African Elephants Loxodonta africana (right) break down trees and fertilise the soil with their dung. Their big ears and wrinkly skin help to radiate heat and keep them cool. |
