Etymology

From Javanese ꦄꦥꦶꦠ꧀ (Apit), ultimately from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *hapit (to press together (between two surfaces), from Proto-Austronesian *Sapit. Named after the fact that Dhu'l-Qa'da is set between two months with major Islamic holidays, Sha'ban (Eid al-Fitr) and Zulhijjah (Eid al-Adha).
