Etymology
edit
Forms of this name are only attested since the early 19th century. The Finnish form has been associated with vieri. Probably ultimately from Estonian Kallivere; there is a village of the same name in Eastern Estonia, the name of which is older,[1] and the Ingrian village may have been named after it.
