Do not increase font sizes for CJK scripts

The font sizes for CJK scripts are enlarged to 120% in the CSS. While it is somewhat acceptable on a computer screen, it looks really unbalanced on a mobile phone. The font size settings did not affect mobile pages previously, so I guess this side effect is introduced in the file reorganization recently. I can't see the point of enlarging CJK font sizes, as 100% is already perfect in my opinion. So why are those lines there? Can we remove them? Lhy7889678 (talk) 10:29, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

I agree. Especially for Korean, the font looks ridiculously large even on a desktop monitor. I suggest that it should be adjusted to something like 105% for Korean or just remove it entirely. Chom.kwoy (talk) 17:27, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Agree to remove. The big font is frankly quite obnoxious especially on a smaller window or screen, and turning down the zoom to resolve the issue actively hurts readability because the English text becomes too small. Lunabunn (talk) 17:32, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Comment: Regarding the idea that CJK text needs to be bigger than Latin text to be legible, that is true. That is why most if not all CJK fonts already make CJK glyphs larger:

I will not comment for C/J, but at least for K, 120% scaling on top of the already larger glyphs looks very strange and actively harms legibility for anyone familiar with the script. Lunabunn (talk) 21:46, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Ya, considering that CJK fonts already have larger glyph sizes, I'm not sure I see any compelling need to increase the font sizes in CSS.

Compare:

• 鬱 — no lang tag, presumably rendering at the default font size.
• 鬱 — tagged as Japanese, CSS defined as 20% larger font.

This is a notably complicated glyph. While the larger size is certainly helpful for being able to pick out the individual character components, the glyph is still legible at the smaller (regular) size. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │^{Tala við mig} 23:04, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Hiragino Sans

Original discussion here about JIS2004 forms of certain kanji.

Please add “Hiragino Sans” to Japanese. For some reason, only English Wiktionary is displaying a number of kanji with the pre-2004 forms. This is strange, as by default, the newest version of Hiragino Sans should display the 2004 forms, and the pre-2004 forms would be obtained with a variation selector, such as 葛飾 without VS and 葛󠄀城 with VS.

However, Hiragino Kaku Gothic Pro, which is included, seems to be an alias of Hiragino Sans. I am wondering if my system does not recognize the two names belonging to the same font. In that case, please add Hiragino Sans. OosakaNoOusama (talk) 09:48, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
