Etymology edit

Old High German Nanzig, from Late Latin Nanciaco (also attested as Nanciacum, Nanceiacum), probably from a Gaulish name Nantiaco (domain of Nantios), a name possibly from the noun nantos ((deepened) valley, torrent, river), from Proto-Celtic *nantos.[1][2] Cognate with German Nanzig.
