Etymology edit
Uncertain, but apparently related to or derived from the same source as Middle Low German pîpeken, pîpken (“kiss”, literally “little blow, little puff, little toot”), from Middle Low German pîpen (“to whistle, blow”). If so, then ultimately related to piepje (“to whistle, blow”) and Piepe (“pipe”).
