Proto-Slavic edit

Etymology edit

Commonly compared with Lithuanian kúokštas (bundle, tuft), accepted with reservations by Trubačev.

The lack of descendants in other branches formally permits alternative reconstruction *kǫstъ, considered as an option in ESSJa. Compare Proto-Slavic *kǫťa (shack, shed) > Russian ку́ча (kúča, hut), ку́ща (kúšča, thicket) (the later via Church Slavonic).

Noun edit

*kustъ m

  1. shrub, bush
