Reconstruction:Proto-West Germanic/aiwijan
Proto-West Germanic
editEtymology
editFrom *aiw (“law”) + *-jan. Compare also 𐌿𐍃𐌰𐌹𐍅𐌾𐌰𐌽 (usaiwjan, “to exert oneself”). Which suggests a common Proto-Germanic ancestor *aiwijaną, but this reconstruction has semantic issues.
