Reconstruction talk:Proto-West Germanic/mawi

Very doubtful. The word was specifically Flemish and Zeelandic in Middle Dutch. The Frisian and particularly the Low German words are considered borrowings. All of the more recent dictionaries say "origin unknown", except De Vries (1971), who supports *mawjaz in a very reluctant way, saying that "a certain justification is given to this [assumption]" by the comparison of Latin mundus. — This unsigned comment was added by 84.188.180.226 (talk) at 08:54, 31 May 2018.
