From Latin Sīdōn, from Ancient Greek Σιδών (Sidṓn), from Phoenician 𐤑𐤉𐤃𐤅𐤍 (ṣydwn /⁠Ṣīdūn⁠/). Cognate with Arabic صَيْدُون (ṣaydūn), Aramaic ܨܝܕܘܢ (Ṣidon), Hebrew צִידוֹן (Ṣīḏōn).
