Luxembourgish edit

Etymology edit

Possibly an alteration of *Spawepp, from Old High German spinnūnwebbi (compare German Spinnwebe); or a blend of the former with *Spawierk (compare dialectal German Spinnenwerk). In the contemporary form analysable as Spann (spider) +‎ Weck (bread roll, clump of dough or butter), but this seems semantically far-off.
